2021 Citizen Science Association Conference

Camellia Sanford-Dolly will be attending the Citizen Science Association’s CitSciVirtual: Local, Global, Connected event in May 2021. A poster Camellia collaborated on entitled, “Macroinvertebrates.org: A Digital Tool for Supporting Identification Activities During Water Quality Biomonitoring Trainings” will be available to attendees from May 3rd-May 27th. Camellia will also be co-facilitating a two-part workshop, “Program Evaluation 101: Evaluation Basics and Logic Models”, on Tuesday, May 4th and Tuesday, May 11th from 1:30-3:00PM ET. Finally, Camellia will be co-facilitating a workshop, “‘Ask Me Anything’ Research and Evaluation Working Group: Surveys, Focus Groups, and Interviews” on Monday, May 17th from 3:00-4:30PM ET. 2021 American Educational Research Association Conference

Meet us at the 2021 American Educational Research Association (AERA) conference held virtually from April 8th-12th.

On Saturday, April 10th from 11:30-12:30 PST, Scott Burg and Alex Gurn will be presenting their paper titled The Arts as a Catalyst for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Education: Connecting Arts Integration to Social Justice. The paper presents evidence from two long-term case studies to explore the role and impact of integrating visual, musical and creative arts in youth learning and curriculum both in and out school.

Dr. Gurn with the support of Kristin Bass, Alison Allen, and Nicole Jarvis, will be presenting a roundtable discussion on Saturday, April 10th, 1:10-2:40 PST, titled Exploring Multiple Stakeholder Experiences and Impacts to Develop a Framework for Bioscience Industry Internships with Underrepresented Youth. This paper explores the learning conditions and outcomes of a nonprofit organization working at the intersections of bioscience/biotechnology workforce education in collaboration with public high schools and professional experts and organizations in a range of STEM industries.

Jennifer Borland and Adam Moylan will be presenting a paper session on the Effect of Microcredential Courses on Teacher Pedagogical Content Knowledge in Mathematics on Saturday, April 10th, 1:10-2:40 PST. The paper explores research conducted on the effectiveness of an online, self-paced, competency-based education program of micro-credentials that are designed for teachers working in underserved rural communities.
