Alexis is a Research Associate with a decade’s long experience in conducting research in both formal and informal educational settings. Her years of research have shaped her interests in children’s media and highlighting the strengths of Black youth and teachers. Prior to joining REA, Alexis was as a third-grade teacher in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she often engaged in various informal research and evaluation initiatives with her students. As a doctoral student, she led and supported various research projects that focused on the instructional practices of social studies teachers, faculty mentoring programs, student apps and toys. Alexis earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Delaware, Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Delaware and a PhD in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Texas at Austin. After work hours, Alexis enjoys walking her pup Mello, listening to Beyonce and taking a fitness class.
