The U.S. Department of Education’s Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) program has announced its FY 2019 competition. This year, the Department of Education has approximately $38 million available to support eligible partnerships that support high-quality teacher preparation and professional development for prospective teachers (with preference points for projects that prepare computer science teachers and another for novice applicants). Proposals must be submitted by May 20th, 2019.
The Office of Innovation and Improvement states the purpose of the TQP program is to “improve student achievement; improve the quality of prospective and new teachers by improving the preparation of prospective teachers and enhancing professional development activities for new teachers; hold teacher preparation programs at institutions of higher education (IHEs) accountable for preparing teachers who meet the applicable State certification and licensure requirements; and recruit highly qualified individuals, including minorities and individuals from other occupations, into the teaching force.” This year, there is one Absolute Priority required of all applicants: Programs must conduct a teaching residency program. There are also two Competitive Priorities: (1) Improving student outcomes in computer science, and (2) Submitting as a novice applicant.
More information about the TQP grant program, including more details on the Absolute and Competitive Priorities can be found on the Federal Registers page. Rockman et al (REA) has designed and led 3 independent TQP evaluations. Click here to find funded TQP proposals.
