REA worked with Cable in the Classroom to develop an evaluation for the pilot implementation of their CONTACT professional development program for teachers in the metropolitan DC area. A series of site observations, interviews, focus groups and surveys were used to gather data from program participants and facilitators during the spring of 2004.
REA's findings from this pilot effort suggested that there was both an interest in and potential benefit to the hybrid delivery model as implemented in the CONTACT program. Further refinements to both the online course and face-to-face sessions and more strategic planning to ensure alignment and prevent redundancy between online and face-to-face components will likely contribute to the overall success of this program. The CONTACT program appeared to have succeeded in having an impact on teachers and students. We suspected that future modifications of the program would help to ensure even greater success.
